In America in the beginning, the performing arts accomplishments of young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the prodigy child category. This is a natural quality for a woman of Irish heritage, that was surrounded during her early days by talented relatives and parents. Maureen was born in this cosy sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. She was raised by her parents as well as family members. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lulburn FitzSimons was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion of "The Shamrock Rovers" an eminent Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and played rough, athletic sports when she was a young. This passion and her gift to perform was impressive. It was evident that she was the winner of each Feis in drama and theatre which Ireland could provide. At the age of 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dream in classical theater and opera singing.
